The
Center for the study of the Organizations and Decisions in Economics (CODE),
created in February 1995 and located in the Department of Economics, is
a research centre with a special status in the Universitat Autònoma
de Barcelona. The objective of the CODE is the promotion and development
of research in the role of the State in the Economy, and in particular in
social choice theory, game theory and its economic applications. This global
project has the potential to generate collaborations among related disciplines.
Game theory interest us both as a source of research (interest that we share
with some mathematicians) as well as its economic applications. At the same
time is a tool with increasingly used among political scientists, sociologists
and biologists. Social choice theory is a common field of study of economics,
philosophy and political science. The general problem of the theory of organizations
can be particularized to the study of contracts (linking with some research
in law), to the analysis of the internal structure of the firm, or to a
better understanding of the institutions composing the State.
Presently, the CODE has eleven members* and has been selected by the Generalitat
de Catalunya as a high quality research centre. Since its creation, it hosts
visitors regularly, and organizes workshops and conferences. Also, its members
are engaged in several research projects funded by the Ministerio de Educación
y Ciencia, and belong to different networks financed by the European Union.
CODE members also participate in the International Doctorate in Economic
Analysis (IDEA) organised by the Department of Economics (UAB).
