Context
* WASAMED is a Thematic Network founded by the European Commission with the objective to establish a platform for effective Mediterranean dialogue on water saving in agriculture, contributing to improved management of limited water resources and sustainable development in the Mediterranean Region.

* The Network, coordinated by CIHEAM-Bari Institute, includes 42 partners from Universities, research centres decision and policy-making institutions and end-users associations from 16 countries (Algeria, Cyprus, Egypt, Germany, Greece, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, Palestine, Portugal, Spain, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey).

Objective
The Conference aims to bring together all relevant local and regional key-actors and scientists in order to discuss and identify the priorities in research to support national and regional strategies on water saving in the Mediterranean region.

Themes
The Conference included the following thematic sessions:

o Water Use Efficiency and Water Productivity
o Irrigation Systems Performance and Management
o Use of Non-conventional Water Resources in Irrigated Agriculture
o Innovative approaches and tools for water savingù
o Socio-economic and environmental aspects of sustainable water management
o Institutional and policy dimensions of water saving
o Integrated strategies for water saving in Mediterranean region
o Euro-Mediterranean cooperation : building up common water saving policies, strategies and priorities
