Thomas Heller is the Shelton Professor of International Legal Studies
at Stanford Law School and Senior Fellow at the Stanford Institute for
International Studies. He received an A.B. from Princeton University
(1965) and an LL.B. from Yale University (1968). He teaches law and
international political economy, with a particular focus on the comparative
economic law corporate governance and finance, labor, competition law)
in Europe, the United States and Japan, and on strategies for investment
or other business transactions in developing economies with weak legal
systems. He has worked extensively in the energy sectors in developing
countries and been closely engaged with the Intergovernmental Panel
on Climate Change in its exploration of (sustainable) development and
climate. As co-director of the Stanford Program in Energy and Sustainable
Development, his current research focuses on the political economy of
energy sector reform in China, India, Brazil, South Africa and Mexico,
as well as the relation of energy futures to problems of environment
and good governance.
