Dr. Ottmar Edenhofer studied Economics and Philosophy at the University of Munich and holds a university degree in both fields. During his studies he founded his own enterprise and led between 1991 and 1993 a humanitarian aid organisation in Bosnia. He worked as a research assistant at the Technical University Darmstadt and wrote his Ph.D. in Economics in 1999. He is currently the Deputy Head of the Department of Global Change and Social Sys­tems at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK). Since 2003 he also leads, together with his colleague Hermann Held, the project “Ocean Sequestration and the Trans­formation of the Global Energy System” funded by the Volkswagenstiftung. His research interests are Climate and Energy Policy, Social-Cost-Benefit-Analysis, Growth Theory, Environmental Economics, Welfare Theory and General Intertemporal Equilibrium Theory.
