Michael Price is an Associate Professor of Economics in the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies and a Faculty Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research. His research interests include experimental and behavioral economics, the economics of charity, environmental economics and industrial organization. Specifically, his research focuses on the use of experimental methods and, in particular, the use of field experiments to address both positive and normative questions in economic science. He has made use of several different markets to obtain data for his field experiments, including numerous charitable fund-raising activities, various auction settings, sports memorabilia markets, open air markets, and the new automobile market. More recently, Price has partnered with various utilities to implement large-scale field experiments designed to promote conservation efforts and compliance with regulations governing resource use. Overall, the data that he has collected has provided insights into a variety of topics including pricing behavior, the provision of public goods, charitable giving, auction theory, and discrimination in the marketplace.
Price’s work has been published in journals such as the American Economic Review, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Public Economics, International Economic Review, RAND Journal of Economics, and Journal of Environmental Economics and Management. His research has been supported by grants from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, the John Templeton Foundation, the Russell Sage Foundation, and the National Defense Business Institute. Prior to joining the faculty at Georgia State University Price was an Associate Professor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
