Faculty - 2010 Summer School
Leonardo Massai studied political science at the University of Florence (Italy) and the Queen’s University of Belfast (Northern Ireland) and wrote his bachelor thesis on "Air Pollution under European Community Law”. He holds a Ph.D. on climate change law at the University of Frankfurt (Germany) and a Master on Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency at the University of Milan (Italy). He has lectured and/or presented on institutional and substantive European law and international and European environmental law at various universities across Europe (Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Italy and France). He has been working on consultancy Projects and training activities in the field of European and international environmental law, notably on the issue of the Kyoto Protocol and its flexible mechanisms, for the Italian Ministry of Environment and Territory, EU institutions, UNDP, Agrotec, Italian National Research Council, in, inter alia, Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia, Ukraine and Jordan. Since 2009 he is legal advisor to the delegation of Papua New Guinea in the international negotiations on the future of the international climate regime (post-2012). Furthermore, Massai is editor of the European Environmental Law website (http://www.eel.nl), associate editor of the Carbon and Climate Law Review (www.lexxion.de/cclr), the Yearbook of International Environmental Law (Oxford University Press) and the Qualenergia website (http://www.qualenergia.it).
